Learn the secrets of how DRUMS CAN TALK. This lecture and
demonstration expertly teaches this ancient mode of communication.
'They have not yet adopted electric signals but possess a system of
communication quite as effective. Their huge drums, by being struck in
several parts, convey language as clear to the initiated as vocal
speech.'

Les Merveilles
D'Guinea--The
Marvels of Guinea, West African Ballet Company
From the opening strains of the melodic balafon phrases, to the ebb and flow of
voices calling and responding in the Mandinka language, Les Merveilles D'Afrique
(The African Marvels) summon the spirit, the mind and the heart to listen
attentively to the sounds of their new album, DIYA. Life is here and you can
feel it.
These traditional sounds are complimented by the call of the Djembe drum, the
Djum-djum and the energy of something coming to a head. As you listen, you will
understand that it's all about the dance and the dancer, the drum and the
drummer, and their consummate communication.
African Healing Dance
VHS
African Healing Dance,
with lead dancer Wyoma and the dancers and drummers of the Damballa dance
troupe, is a step-by-step dance course on healing traditions and spiritual
movements that are special to the African dance heritage. An African proverb
teaches, "If you can talk, you can sing, and if you can walk, you can dance."
Thus African Healing Dance is suited for beginning to advanced dancers,
students of dance, instructors, and choreographers studying and/or performing
African dance. The instructional video and included manual provide an effective
guide for a dance or exercise program at home or in a workshop setting.
Ipi Ntombi [CAST RECORDING]
I first seen this production and heard the sound track on Public
Television...... It has a story line that is fantastic. The Dancing is
excellent. THe Singers not only make you feel like you are there they bring out
the feeling of each and every song.
This production is a must see. The music. is uplifting and true african
tribal with a bit more upbeat.
Ipi Ntombi
VHS ~ Ipi Ntombi
Ipi Ntombi is a
joyous, homegrown dance and music celebration of black South African culture.
First performed in 1974, the production, with a phenomenally talented and
energetic cast of 50, has delighted audiences all over the world. This video of
a live performance doesn't flag for an instant. The dancers display the athletic
stamina needed to run a marathon; the singers show the vocal and emotive power
of grand opera. Ipi Ntombi might well be regarded as a national opera of
South Africa.

Planet Drum (Compact Disc)
"It had long been a dream of mine to bring together great drummers from
around the world to make a recording based entirely on percussion," says
Hart. " In 1991, that dream became reality." For the companion recording to
his second book, Mickey Hart drew upon the stellar musical friendships he
had made over several decades to make real his dream of a percussion
masterwork, blending the talents and native instruments of percussion giants
from five traditions into a celebratory classic. |
